How does trauma show up?

Since I started working in community, it became clear that the root causes of much ill health - physical, emotional, and more - is often trauma.

It also became clear that how it shows up is often misunderstood. Not just by the patients, but also by the providers. Why would a person get angry or burst into tears at something that seems minor to another person? What is this “empath” personality, who seems hypersensitive to others’ emotions? Why do people miss appointments, not follow up, even if they do seem to understand the health consequences?
